Whitney Houston was an American singer, actress, and producer born in Newark, New Jersey. She rose to fame in the mid-1980s with her powerful voice and crossover appeal, debuting with the self-titled album Whitney Houston in 1985. Her second album, Whitney, produced multiple number-one hits including "I Wanna Dance with Somebody." Houston starred in films such as The Bodyguard, whose soundtrack featured the record-breaking single "I Will Always Love You." She collaborated with artists like Mariah Carey and appeared on labels including Arista and RCA. Houston won six Grammy Awards and sold over 200 million records worldwide before her death in 2012.
