Claude Bolling

Bio

Claude Bolling was a French pianist, composer, and bandleader whose career spanned more than six decades. Born in Cannes in 1930, he began playing jazz in the 1940s and became known for blending traditional jazz, ragtime, and classical influences. His recordings with violinist Jean-Luc Ponty and flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal helped popularize crossover jazz-classical works in the 1970s and 1980s. Bolling composed scores for numerous French films and television productions while maintaining an active performing and recording schedule. He led his own big band and small ensembles, releasing dozens of albums that showcased both original material and standards. He died in 2020 at the age of 90.
