Bio

James Ingram (1952–2019) was an American R&B singer, songwriter, and musician from Akron, Ohio. He rose to prominence in the early 1980s with a string of hit singles that blended soulful vocals with polished pop production, including the chart-topping duets “Baby, Come to Me” with Patti Austin and “Somewhere Out There” with Linda Ronstadt. Beyond his own recordings, Ingram contributed to numerous film soundtracks and collaborated with artists such as Quincy Jones, Michael McDonald, and Ray Charles. His smooth tenor and emotive phrasing made him a staple of adult-contemporary and yacht-rock radio throughout the 1980s and 1990s, and he earned multiple Grammy Awards for his performances and songwriting.
