Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 was a Brazilian musical ensemble formed in 1966 by pianist and bandleader Sergio Mendes. The group became known for blending bossa nova with jazz and pop elements, creating a distinctive sound that helped popularize Brazilian music internationally during the late 1960s. Their recordings featured lush arrangements, vocal harmonies, and a mix of Portuguese and English lyrics. The ensemble released several influential albums on A&M Records, including the breakthrough "Equinox" and the hit single "Mas Que Nada." Their music reached wide audiences through television appearances and film soundtracks. The original lineup disbanded around 1970, though Mendes continued recording under variations of the Brasil '66 name with new personnel.
