Bio

Mauro Giuliani (1781–1829) was an Italian guitarist, cellist, singer, and composer whose work helped establish the classical guitar as a serious concert instrument. Born in Bisceglie, he moved to Vienna in the early 19th century, where he gained fame as a virtuoso performer and composer of concertos, chamber music, and numerous solo guitar pieces. His compositions, including the celebrated Guitar Concerto in A major, Op. 30, and a large body of studies and variations, remain central to the classical guitar repertoire. Giuliani’s technical innovations and expressive style influenced generations of guitarists and contributed significantly to the instrument’s prominence in European musical life.
