Bio
Geeta Dutt (23 November 1930 – 20 July 1972) was an Indian playback singer whose voice defined the golden era of Hindi film music. Born in Faridpur, Bengal Presidency (now Bangladesh), she began recording at age 17 and quickly became a leading vocalist for composers such as S. D. Burman, O. P. Nayyar and Hemant Kumar. Her repertoire spanned romantic ballads, ghazals and folk-inflected numbers, with signature performances in films like Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam. Dutt’s expressive phrasing and effortless range made her one of the most sought-after female voices in Indian cinema until her death at age 41.
