Bio
Giuseppe Patanè (1932–1989) was an Italian conductor renowned for his work in opera and symphonic repertoire. Born in Naples, he began his career assisting his father, also a conductor, and quickly established himself in major Italian opera houses before expanding internationally. He held principal or guest posts with companies such as the Bavarian State Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and the Metropolitan Opera, where his precise, idiomatic readings of Verdi, Puccini, and Rossini were widely admired. Patanè also recorded extensively for labels including Decca, EMI, and CBS, leaving a legacy of authoritative opera sets and orchestral performances.
