Bio
Michael Crawford (born 19 January 1942) is an English actor and singer best known for creating the title role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera. His performance in the original 1986 London production and subsequent Broadway run established him as one of the leading musical-theatre stars of his generation. Before Phantom, Crawford appeared in the West End and on Broadway in Billy (1969) and Barnum (1981), winning Olivier and Tony Awards for the latter. His light-lyric tenor voice and flair for physical comedy also brought him success in film and television, notably as Frank Spencer in the BBC sitcom Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. In addition to stage and screen work, Crawford has released several solo albums of popular standards and show tunes, maintaining an active concert career into the 21st century.
