Bio
Nicola Piovani (born 26 May 1946) is an Italian composer, pianist, and conductor known for his extensive work in film, theatre, and concert music. Born in Rome, he studied piano and composition at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia before beginning his career in the late 1960s as a pianist and arranger for Italian singer-songwriters. Piovani gained international recognition for his film scores, notably winning the Academy Award for Best Original Score for Roberto Benigni’s Life Is Beautiful (1997). His other notable film collaborations include works with directors such as Federico Fellini, the Taviani brothers, Nanni Moretti, and Marco Bellocchio. In addition to cinema, he has composed extensively for the stage, writing incidental music for numerous theatrical productions and several operas.
