Bio
Akiko Suwanai is a Japanese violinist born in Tokyo on 7 February 1972. She began violin studies at the age of four and later attended the Toho Gakuen School of Music before continuing her training at the Juilliard School and the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin. Suwanai gained international recognition after winning first prize at the 1990 International Tchaikovsky Competition, becoming the youngest and first Japanese laureate of the event. She has since performed with major orchestras worldwide and recorded extensively for the Universal Music label, focusing on the classical concerto repertoire.
