Bio
Martin Turnovský (1928–2021) was a Czech conductor whose career spanned more than five decades. Born in Prague, he studied at the Prague Conservatory and began conducting in the 1950s, later serving as chief conductor of the Prague Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Danish Opera. He was noted for his authoritative readings of Czech repertoire, especially the symphonies of Dvořák and Martinů, and for his guest appearances with major European orchestras. Turnovský also recorded extensively for Supraphon and other labels, leaving a legacy of performances that helped introduce Czech orchestral music to international audiences.
