William Christie is an American-born harpsichordist and conductor who has lived and worked in France since the 1970s. He is widely recognized for his pioneering work in the revival of French baroque music and for founding the ensemble Les Arts Florissants in 1979. Christie has conducted extensively at major opera houses and festivals, bringing renewed attention to composers such as Lully, Rameau, and Charpentier. His recordings and performances have played a central role in the modern early-music movement.
