Bio

Stéphane Denève is a French conductor born in Tourcoing in 1971. He is known for his work with major orchestras and his advocacy of contemporary classical music alongside core French repertoire. He has held principal conductor positions with the Brussels Philharmonic, Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, and currently serves as music director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. His recordings include complete cycles of works by Poulenc, Debussy, and Ravel. Denève is noted for his precise technique and his collaborations with leading soloists in concerto repertoire ranging from Mozart to newly commissioned works.
