Bio
Sergei Babayan is an Armenian-American classical pianist born in Yerevan. He studied at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory and the Moscow Conservatory before moving to the United States. Babayan won the gold medal at the 1989 Robert Schumann International Competition and the 1991 Scottish International Piano Competition. He has performed with major orchestras including the Cleveland Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, and Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra. Babayan is noted for his interpretations of Romantic repertoire, particularly Chopin, Schumann, and Rachmaninoff, and has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon and Nonesuch. He serves on the faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Music.
