Reinhard Goebel

Bio

Reinhard Goebel is a German violinist and conductor renowned for his pioneering work in historically informed performance of Baroque and early music. In 1973 he founded the Musica Antiqua Köln ensemble, which became one of the leading period-instrument groups of its generation and recorded extensively for Archiv Produktion. Goebel studied violin at the Cologne Conservatory and later specialized in Baroque violin technique. He has appeared as a soloist and conductor with many major orchestras and has taught at institutions including the Mozarteum Salzburg. His extensive discography includes acclaimed recordings of works by Bach, Telemann, and other composers of the 17th and 18th centuries.
