Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara, 5 September 1946 – 24 November 1991) was a British singer, songwriter, and record producer, best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. Born in Stone Town, Zanzibar, he moved with his family to Middlesex, England in his late teens. Mercury wrote numerous Queen hits including "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Killer Queen," and "We Are the Champions," and was celebrated for his flamboyant stage persona and four-octave vocal range. Beyond Queen, Mercury released two solo albums and collaborated with artists such as Michael Jackson and Montserrat Caballé. He continued performing until shortly before his death from AIDS-related complications in 1991. His catalog remains one of the best-selling in music history, and his influence on rock performance and songwriting endures.
