Bio

Staatskapelle Berlin is one of the world’s oldest orchestras, founded in 1570 as the court ensemble of the Electors of Brandenburg. Based at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the ensemble performs a wide repertoire that spans Baroque opera, Classical symphonies, and contemporary works. Under successive chief conductors—including Richard Strauss, Wilhelm Furtwängler, and Daniel Barenboim—the orchestra has maintained a reputation for rich string tone and disciplined ensemble playing. It regularly appears at major festivals such as the Salzburg Easter Festival and tours internationally. In addition to its operatic duties, Staatskapelle Berlin records extensively for Deutsche Grammophon and other labels, contributing benchmark performances of the German symphonic and operatic canon.
