Bio
Bramwell Tovey (1953–2022) was a British conductor and composer whose career spanned orchestral, brass-band, and operatic repertoire. Born in Ilford, Essex, he studied at the Royal Academy of Music and later became principal conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and music director of the New York Philharmonic’s summer season at Bravo! Vail. Tovey was equally at home leading large symphony orchestras and championing brass-band music; he served as music director of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and conducted many of Britain’s leading brass ensembles. His compositions include concertos, song cycles, and ceremonial works, several of which have been recorded commercially.
