Bio
Salil Chowdhury (1922–1995) was an Indian music composer, lyricist and singer whose work spanned film, folk and popular music. Born in Bengal, he became known for blending Western orchestration with Indian melodic traditions, creating memorable soundtracks for both Bengali and Hindi cinema. His compositions often carried social themes and drew from rural folk forms, ghazals and light-classical styles. Over several decades he contributed to numerous films and independent recordings, leaving a lasting influence on South Asian music.
