Gabriel Yared is a Lebanese-French composer best known for his film scores. Born in Beirut in 1949, he moved to France in 1971 and began his career writing music for television and advertising before transitioning to cinema. His breakthrough came with the score for Betty Blue (1986), which established him as a leading film composer in Europe. Yared gained international recognition with his work on The English Patient (1996), for which he received an Academy Award for Best Original Score. He has since composed for numerous acclaimed films including City of Angels, Cold Mountain, and The Talented Mr. Ripley. His style often blends orchestral writing with Middle Eastern influences, reflecting his Lebanese heritage.
