Bio

Bill Evans was an American jazz pianist and composer whose harmonic innovations and introspective style profoundly shaped modern jazz piano. Born in Plainfield, New Jersey in 1929, he rose to prominence in the late 1950s with his work alongside Miles Davis on the landmark album Kind of Blue. Evans led influential trios featuring bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian, releasing classics such as Portrait in Jazz and Waltz for Debby. His lyrical touch and sophisticated chord voicings influenced generations of pianists across jazz and beyond. Evans recorded extensively for Riverside, Verve, and Warner Bros., earning multiple Grammy awards before his death in 1980.
