Bio

José Serebrier (born December 3, 1938) is a Uruguayan conductor and composer whose career has spanned more than six decades. After early studies in Montevideo, he moved to the United States, where he studied with Aaron Copland and became the youngest-ever music director of an American orchestra when he was appointed to lead the Utica Symphony at age twenty-two. Serebrier has conducted many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the London Symphony, the Royal Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. His extensive discography includes acclaimed recordings of works by Shostakovich, Barber, and his own compositions, and he has received multiple Grammy nominations for both conducting and composition.
