Bio
Justin Hurwitz (born January 22, 1985) is an American composer and pianist best known for his film scores. Born in Los Angeles, he studied at Harvard University where he met future collaborators Damien Chazelle and Benj Pasek. Hurwitz has scored all of Chazelle’s feature films, including Whiplash, La La Land, First Man, and Babylon. His work on La La Land earned him two Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song (shared with Pasek and Paul). Hurwitz’s scores are noted for their jazz-inflected harmonies and memorable themes, and he continues to compose for both film and concert settings.
