Bio
John Field (1782–1837) was an Irish pianist and composer who is widely credited with inventing the nocturne as a distinct musical form. Born in Dublin, he moved to London as a teenager and later settled in Saint Petersburg, where he spent much of his career performing and teaching. His piano works, especially the nocturnes, influenced later Romantic composers such as Chopin and Liszt. Field’s style combined lyrical melodies with a distinctive touch and harmonic language that bridged Classical and Romantic traditions.
