Bio
The Sixteen is a British choir and period-instrument ensemble founded in 1977 by conductor Harry Christophers. Based in Oxford, the group specialises in early music, performing repertoire that spans Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony, Baroque masterpieces and contemporary commissions. Under Christophers’ direction, The Sixteen has become internationally recognised for its purity of tone and scholarly programming, regularly appearing at major festivals and recording extensively for its own CORO label. The ensemble also maintains an outreach programme, The Choral Pilgrimage, which brings its performances to historic venues across the United Kingdom.
