Bio

Alessandro Stradella (1639–1682) was an Italian Baroque composer, singer, and violinist whose career spanned Rome, Venice, and Genoa. He produced a large body of sacred and secular vocal music, including oratorios, cantatas, and operas, noted for their expressive melodies and inventive orchestration. Stradella’s life was marked by dramatic episodes; after a scandal in Rome he fled to northern Italy, where he continued to compose and perform under noble patronage. His works, rediscovered in the 19th century, remain valued for their lyrical beauty and technical sophistication.
