Bio
Silvius Leopold Weiss (1687–1750) was a German lutenist and composer of the late Baroque era. Born in Grodków, Silesia, he became one of the most celebrated lute virtuosos of his time, serving at the courts of Dresden and Warsaw. Weiss composed over 600 works for lute, including sonatas, suites, and preludes that remain central to the instrument’s repertoire. His music combines French and Italian influences with a distinctive German contrapuntal style, and he was admired by contemporaries such as Johann Sebastian Bach.
