Bio

Alessandro Scarlatti (1660–1725) was an Italian Baroque composer born in Palermo. He is regarded as one of the most important figures in the development of opera seria and contributed significantly to the evolution of the da capo aria form. Scarlatti composed over seventy operas as well as numerous oratorios, cantatas, and instrumental works. His music bridged late 17th-century styles with the emerging galant idiom that would influence later composers of the 18th century.
