Bio

Christian Thielemann (born 1 April 1959) is a German conductor renowned for his interpretations of the Austro-German repertoire. He has held principal positions with the Munich Philharmonic, the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, and the Bayreuth Festival, where he has led annual productions of Wagner’s music dramas. Trained in Berlin, Thielemann began his career at smaller German opera houses before rising to international prominence in the 1990s. He is noted for his meticulous attention to orchestral color and his long-standing collaborations with the Vienna Philharmonic and the Salzburg Festival. Beyond the podium, Thielemann is an advocate for preserving traditional performance practices and has recorded extensively for Deutsche Grammophon and Sony Classical, focusing on Beethoven, Bruckner, Strauss, and Wagner.
