Charles Münch (1891–1968) was a French conductor and violinist renowned for his interpretations of the French orchestral repertoire. Born in Strasbourg, he studied violin in Paris and Berlin before making his conducting debut in 1932. He served as music director of the Orchestre de Paris and later led the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1949 to 1962, where he championed works by Ravel, Debussy, and Berlioz. Münch was celebrated for his precise yet expressive conducting style and his advocacy of contemporary French composers. He founded the Orchestre de Paris in 1967 and continued to guest-conduct major ensembles until his death in 1968.
