Ferruccio Busoni (1866–1924) was an Italian composer, pianist, conductor, editor, writer, and teacher whose career bridged late-Romanticism and early modernism. Born in Empoli, Tuscany, he studied in Graz and Leipzig before settling in Berlin, where he became one of the most influential pianists of his generation and a tireless advocate for new music. As a composer, Busoni is best known for his transcriptions of Bach organ works, the monumental Piano Concerto, and the unfinished opera Doktor Faust. His theoretical writings, especially the Sketch of a New Aesthetic of Music, anticipated many 20th-century developments and inspired a wide circle of pupils and contemporaries.
