Bio

Zdeněk Fibich (1850–1900) was a Czech composer whose output bridged late-Romanticism and the emerging Czech national school. Born near Prague, he studied in Leipzig and Paris before returning to Bohemia, where he worked as a conductor and teacher while composing symphonies, operas, and extensive chamber music. Although less internationally celebrated than Smetana or Dvořák, Fibich produced over 600 works, including the melodramas “Hippodamia” and the piano cycle “Moods, Impressions and Reminiscences.” His chamber pieces—string quartets, trios, and violin sonatas—remain staples of the Czech repertoire for their lyrical warmth and refined craftsmanship.
