Henry Mancini (1924–1994) was an American composer, conductor, and arranger whose melodic scores and arrangements defined mid-century popular music. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he studied at the Juilliard School and later served in the U.S. Army, where he arranged for military bands before moving to Hollywood. Mancini gained lasting fame through his film and television work, writing iconic themes such as "Moon River" for Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the jazzy "Pink Panther" motif. His lush orchestral sound also shaped the easy-listening and adult-standards genres, earning him four Academy Awards and twenty Grammys. Beyond the screen, Mancini conducted major symphony orchestras and released numerous instrumental albums that brought his cinematic style to living-room stereos worldwide.
