Bio
François-Joseph Gossec (1734–1829) was a French composer of the Classical era whose career bridged the late Baroque and early Romantic periods. Born in the village of Froidchapelle in the Austrian Netherlands (now Belgium), he moved to Paris in 1751, where he became a central figure in the city’s musical life. He composed symphonies, operas, sacred music, and revolutionary hymns, and he played a key role in establishing the Paris Conservatoire.
