Rolando Villazón

Bio

Rolando Villazón is a Mexican tenor born in Mexico City in 1972. He studied at the National Conservatory of Music and later at the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe, Germany. Villazón gained international recognition in the early 2000s for his performances in operas by Verdi, Puccini, and Donizetti, appearing at major houses including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, and the Royal Opera House. Beyond singing, Villazón has worked as a stage director, author, and television presenter. He has recorded extensively for Deutsche Grammophon and hosts programs exploring classical music for French and German broadcasters. His repertoire spans lyric and spinto tenor roles, and he is noted for his expressive phrasing and dramatic commitment on stage.
