Bio

Nigel North is an English lutenist and early-music specialist born in London on 5 June 1954. He studied lute at the Royal College of Music and quickly established himself as one of the leading players of Renaissance and Baroque plucked instruments. In addition to an extensive solo career, North has performed and recorded with many of the foremost period-instrument ensembles, including the English Concert, the Academy of Ancient Music, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. His discography spans music from the medieval period through the late Baroque, featuring works by John Dowland, J. S. Bach, and Sylvius Leopold Weiss. North has also taught at several conservatories and universities, including the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Indiana University, helping to shape a new generation of lutenists and continuo players.
