Bio
Igor Levit is a Russian-German classical pianist born in 1987 in Nizhny Novgorod. He moved to Germany at age eight and studied at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. Levit gained international recognition after winning the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in 2012 and has since become known for his technically precise and intellectually rigorous interpretations of Beethoven, Bach, and Shostakovich. He has released acclaimed recordings on Sony Classical including the complete Beethoven sonatas and the Goldberg Variations. Levit is also noted for his socially engaged performances and recordings addressing themes of resistance and remembrance.
