Bio
Paul Hillier (born 9 February 1949) is a British conductor, music director and baritone renowned for his work in early music and contemporary art music. He has founded and directed several influential vocal ensembles, including the Hilliard Ensemble and Theatre of Voices, and has championed both medieval and renaissance repertoire as well as modern minimalist and avant-garde compositions. Hillier has recorded extensively for labels such as ECM and harmonia mundi, and his discography spans Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony, and works by living composers. He has held prominent academic and artistic posts in Europe and North America, and continues to shape the performance practice of vocal music through his conducting, singing and scholarly editions.
