Bio
Alfredo Catalani (1854–1893) was an Italian composer of the late Romantic era, best known for his operas. Born in Lucca, he studied at the Milan Conservatory and gained early recognition with works such as "Elda" and "Dejanice." His mature operas, including "Loreley" and "La Wally," are noted for their lyrical melodies and rich orchestral writing. Catalani’s music reflects the influence of both French grand opera and the emerging verismo style, yet he maintained a distinct melodic voice. Despite limited commercial success during his lifetime, his works have been periodically revived, and "La Wally" remains his most performed opera, especially its famous aria "Ebben? Ne andrò lontana."
