Bio
Renata Scotto (1934–2023) was an Italian operatic soprano celebrated for her expressive voice and dramatic intensity. Born in Savona, she made her professional debut in 1952 and quickly rose to prominence on the international stage, becoming a leading figure at La Scala and the Metropolitan Opera. Scotto was especially admired for her interpretations of Verdi and Puccini heroines, including Violetta, Butterfly, and Mimì. Over a career spanning more than four decades, she performed in the world’s major opera houses and later turned to stage direction and vocal coaching.
