Bio

Lars Vogt (1970–2022) was a German pianist renowned for his lyrical and insightful interpretations of the classical repertoire. Born in Düren, he first gained international attention after winning second prize at the 1990 Leeds International Piano Competition and went on to perform with many of the world’s leading orchestras. In addition to his solo career, Vogt was an active chamber musician and founded the festival Spannungen in Heimbach, Germany, which became a platform for intimate, high-caliber performances. He also served as music director of the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris from 2015 to 2020, balancing conducting duties with his continued recital and recording work. Vogt’s extensive discography includes critically acclaimed recordings of works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, and Brahms, many of which were released on labels such as EMI Classics, Warner Classics, and Ondine. His playing was noted for its clarity, emotional depth, and thoughtful phrasing, qualities that earned him a devoted following among audiences and critics alike.
