Bio

Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre (1665–1729) was a French composer and harpsichordist active during the Baroque era. Born in Paris, she gained early recognition at the court of Louis XIV and became one of the few women of her time to publish instrumental and vocal works. Her output includes harpsichord suites, cantatas, and the opera Céphale et Procris, which was staged at the Académie Royale de Musique in 1694. She maintained an active career as a performer and teacher, and her music was printed and widely circulated during her lifetime. After her death, her works largely fell into obscurity until modern revivals brought renewed attention to her contributions to French Baroque music.
