About
Robert Smith is an English musician, singer, songwriter and producer best known as the founder, lead vocalist, guitarist and primary songwriter of the Cure. Emerging from the post-punk scene in Crawley, Sussex in the late 1970s, he shaped the band’s signature sound blending gothic rock, post-punk, new wave and alternative rock. Smith has remained the only constant member across more than four decades and numerous lineup changes. The Cure’s breakthrough albums such as Disintegration (1989) and Wish (1992) established them as one of the most influential alternative acts, while later releases like Bloodflowers and 4:13 Dream continued their atmospheric style. He has also collaborated with artists including Siouxsie and the Banshees and produced for other acts. Smith is recognized for his distinctive look, melancholic vocals and introspective lyrics.
