Norman Connors

Norman Connors is an American jazz drummer, composer, and producer from Philadelphia. Active since the late 1960s, he gained prominence in the 1970s with a series of R&B-infused jazz albums on Buddah Records. His biggest hits include the singles “You Are My Starship” and “Valentine Love,” both featuring vocalists Michael Henderson and Phyllis Hyman. Connors worked extensively as a session drummer for artists such as Archie Shepp and Carlos Garnett before focusing on his own projects. His sound blends soul, jazz-funk, and quiet-storm balladry, and he continued releasing albums into the 2000s.
